Slow start

I could feel the migraine, but I just couldn't summon up the energy to get out of bed at 3AM to take the Zomig.
I slept poorly all the way 'round. Migraine, codeine buzz, breakthrough pain in my uterus, waiting to hear from Amanda, (she had a bad but hard to narrow down pain so she went to ER. She's seems better, but a mother's love/concern is like that), and just my mind free associating.

I did have my codeine & T3's at my bedside, so I kept on top of that. Petey and Chica let me lay in until 11. I love these two; they really do take care of me. I took the Zomig after I fed my puppies, downed a cherry Coke, and we went for a bit of a stroll. Rx kicked in, and I've been knitting on the Secret Project today.

I finished Criminal Minds through Ssn 9 on TurboFlix, and started on Sons of Anarchy.

Hoovered, roasted the carrots that I bought at the market at the Steampunk festival yesterday (so sweet and delicious!!!), practiced my fluting.

Pains still significant so despite the itching, I've been taking an oxy with my meds. I just need to make it 11 more days and nights. I can do this. I've made it this far; I'm in the home stretch. A powerful reminder though how things happen the way we need them to sometimes.

I tried a tape highlighter for checking off where I am on my pattern. A regular highlighter won't work as I have the pattern in plastic sheets.

I'm going to try dry erase markers; I know it'll rub off after some shifting, but I don't need it *really* permanent, just as I'm working.

I have decided on a cowl for my Mountain Colors (it's weird typing colours without a "u", but I respect their spelling) Perspectives Twizzle gradient kit. The Filan Cowl.

Oh, and I forgot to show you my sock! I finished it in the road yesterday.

I am thrilled with it!! I love the flow of the green.

Chica has made a lot of progress with letting me pet her and have my feet on/around her while she's gnawing on a chewy.

So that's where I'm at. Feeling rough physically, but emotionally I've come a long way. I'm quite content with my life as it is - puppies, fibre endeavours, musical learning, friends galore. I'm still getting used to not having Lee to reach out to, I don't feel like it's the yawning void that it was. I have a lot going on for myself, and I let myself forget about that. Thank you all for reminding me and keeping me from losing sight of that.

To my friends. Sláinte!!

We went looking for a yarn store ...

We set out early, Starbucks & Panera fueled is up. the soufflés at Panera are seriously delicious. It is my fave breakfast item.

We got to Coldwater, looking for a simple yarn store, as nd then this happened:

OMG!! One of my fave sci-fi/fantasy authors, Julie Czerneda, was signing autographs!! Bonus - she's Canadian!! More bonus - Toad was there!!!

Red Hat steampunk ladies - the fucking bomb!!!

We did get to The Purple Sock

and enjoyed a nice poke about.
They also have a wide range of loose teas; Helen bought several and I'm going to try one later.

We stopped at Purl3 in Orillia, but my phone had died by then and I have no pics.

The pain has kicked off the last few days, I'm on the max Rx, so I am looking forward to a few days with nothing on the schedule, except knitting, flute practice, and puppy loving.

Starting tonight

Whatta Thursday

Nice easy pre-op physical - I'm relatively fit and totally hot. not going to argue with a professional ;)
Dropped of some stuff by Amanda, who is making her way, slowly and on her own terms, but she is doing it and learning a lot.
Then a lovely drive out to The Needle Emporium. I miss seeing Julie, touching the yarns and seeing the colours in all their glory!! I spent a lovely afternoon knitting, chatting and picking out all sorts.

I'm made marked progress on the Secret Project, but have had to go back a bit, (silly mistake), but I'm back on track now.

The Manos del Uruguay Alegria that I had purchased on the last couple of yarn crawls had been whispering to me. After going through Julie's stock of Alegria, I knew I had to answer its siren song.

Yup - Sweetspot. I am very pleased and can't wait to do an Alegria Strip!!

A Namaste BYOB to make toting my Knitter's Pride set easier.

A couple of magazines that had projects I want to do.

A Mountain Colors Perspective gradient kit for a yet undecided cowl.

I was utterly smitten with this new colour Hummingbird in Satchel by Mrs Crosby. I set to finding a shawl pattern and after much fancying about in Ravelry, selected Chevry as the winner. Hollywood Cerise was selected as the companion colour, also after significant study. Crème Fraîche, Spicy Habanero, and Icebox Watermelon were all contenders.

I also picked up a project to work on after my surgery. I know, but I don't want to run out of something to do.

Stockinette, but shaping to keep me mindful.

On my way home yesterday my rear wheel bearing seized on the passenger side. Could've been a disaster on the 401, but fortunately I had control of my car, was near an exit and was able to ease into a garage. Active Green + Ross, while they were able to find a wheel drum that same evening and do the repair, fucked me hard on pricing.
But I am going to count the multiple of blessings that kept me safe and got me back home to my puppies, who held it long time!! *\o/* yeah for crate training!!!

Today I scored the remains sets in the BSG (new) series

for $30!! and found myself a new creative outlet. My teacher, who is also a friend and a knitter bonus, was impressed with my quick study and sent me home with an extra note (beyond the beginner three) to practice on. Clearly I'm a natural

The puppies weren't sure what was going on, but ignored it soon enough. (And yes, a seriously unflattering pic of my arm!) This will give me something to occupy my fingers & mind whilst on my convalesce. Not that knitting can't do it, but I am expanding my horizons.

Whew - it's been a busy couple of days, but I am feeling quite content within myself. This vacation came none too soon!

At Home

Today was an easy at home day. I did a lot of knitting; you'll just have to take my word for it.

The puppies got bathed to get all of the dust and sand from my dads off of them. I'd forgotten about it until I got up from the love seat and there was sand from Petey that I had to dust off.
They took it well enough for all that I don't need to bathe them often.

After that it was napping & knitting.

I rubbed pad cream into Petey's paws. They get quite dry and you'd think he'd like it, (or at least not hate it), as I've been rubbing his feet since he was tiny. He barely tolerates it, then he promptly sets to licking it off. Idjit. <3

I made a quinoa salad tonight. I clearly underestimated the combined quantity of all the ingredients!!

It's delicious, but there's no way I can eat it all before it is inedible. At Helens suggestion I'll likely freeze most of it for when I'm less inclined to meal prep during my convalescence. Except for the peppers, it should freeze and thaw well.

I am trying out TurboFlix. I've been on a Criminal Minds binge (saves me purchasing 8 & 9 until they are much less costly). Alias, CSI Miami & NY are queued up, and I haven't even searched much. I am pleased, and will happily hand over my $3.99/month.

Home Sweet Home

I had more relaxing

Sunday afternoon I went to visit with one of my best friends from high school. We haven't seen each other in easily 25 years, but he lives with his family around the corner from my dad.
We both clearly had a miserable time.

Facebook has been so excellent for catching up with high school friends.
Mark is an artist and I purchased a piece of his recently that just spoke to me.

Something about the eyes ... I could stare into them all day trying to figure him out. I am excited to get it framed, but am waiting until I have the funds to do it up exactly how I want to.

Wicked storm Sunday night all over the place. My dads off the grid, so I was unaffected by local power outages, but I did have to close the door despite a generous 8' overhang on the back of the house.

I know, looks like a hurricane!!

Sunday I picked veg from the garden for Joan & I - organic all the way!!
We had a wonderful visit and I got a grand tour of their home. It's big as is, and with the plans her & Vic have made, it will make excellent use of a lot of wasted space.
The puppies and I enjoyed a perfect afternoon on the deck, catching up about every little thing.

The puppies were exhausted and slept most of the way home. Awwww.

I fed them when we got in, then despite the need for a shower, o succumbed to the greater need for sleep in my own bed.
The puppies and I both slept soundly. They are eating normally again; they were off their food whilst I was at my dads. I wasn't overly concerned as they were active and happy. But they are much happier now that we're back on familiar ground.

I have been spending time with my friend Dorothy

and her horse Ryon

learning about grooming and basic care. I would like to learn to ride, and am quite content learning from the ground up

Ryon was so chill and just tuned in with us today. He is beautiful, and his demeanour now comes in large part from Dorothy. She cares so much about his mental and emotional well being.

I'll be at The Needle Emporium after lunch on Thursday catching up on all the new yarns and patterns. If you're around, let me know and we can catch up too!!
