Catching up

OMG - I can't believe that it's Saturday already! Where has the week gone? On Monday I had a whole week to do stuff - relax, knit, some activities with the kids - and now it's all gone!! sigh

Well, Amanda is knitting another scar
f. Is it still "another" if she hasn't actually finished one yet? Child has a serious case of start-itis. She was knitting on the couch and Mischief just couldn't stay away from the action. "It's okay Mom. I'd rather she bite my toes than the yarn." She has heart of a knitter!!

Amanda also planted some cat grass for Mischief. It's growing nicely & Mischief is tentatively exploring her little patch. I'm sure that in a few days she'll be scarfing it down like crazy.

Here
is the Silk Shrug - un fait accompli!! I have it hanging to block the ruffle down - I used the last bit of the 8th ball and got about 5.5" of the 6" that the pattern recommended. I would definitely get an extra skein if you're knitting this - especially if you want to do the 2nd size (I was knitting the smaller size). And it's not just me and my yarn-vacuuming style; my gauge was spot-on, even my row gauge. It's gorgeous though - the yarn blocks out so perfectly!! Hopefully Julie will be able to get a picture of someone wearing it - I totally gapped it. Amanda & I had a fun but exhausting day at the store.

Here is a picture of Elise's sweater blocking. It's the wrong side so it doesn't look like much but I wanted to try to show you something.
Here's a question for y'all - would you rather see a cryptic, blurry, pixelated and/or generally uninformative picture of my work knitting or nothing? Do the mystery pictures annoy you more than they intrigue and tantalize you?

I will leave you with the words of the smallest mistress of the house.

Stuck Up

So I got a bumper sticker & another sticker that was used to close the bag that held the February yarn from the Rockin' Sock Club. I wasn't sure what to do with them. Kerwyn is anti-bumper sticker so the van was out. M'man Étienne stepped up! I guess he's been working with me long enough that he wanted to demonstrate his love for knitting in his own way. I think that they suit him. Of course, this means that I'm making a serious commitment to him too - I don't think that the stickers are designed for easy removal.

I've finished the first current Opal sock.
Fits like a glove sock.

Mischief is becoming quite the knitting cat. Don't get me wrong - she loves yarn & playing with it, she's not a disgrace to her kind. But she has tapped into her inner kitten and found the Zen of knitting. It is so utterly relaxing that she isn't just cat-napping, she's completely passed out.

Amanda & I are going to be working (and I use that term loosely when I speak about knitting-related work) at The Needle Emporium on Wednesday. If you're going to be around, pop your head in and say "hey!".

What color of sock yarn do you prefer?

You like blue sock yarn. You are a fellow. You don't like bars, you prefer pubs.

WatchingTAR with Wannietta - part IV

The beers're in the fridge and the nachos will be out of the oven on the 1st commercial. Grab a cushion & your favourite tv knitting ... we're off again.

No Rob - not arrogance, just confidence. But be careful; confident, cocky, careless, out of the race. Pride goeth before the fall.
It's really unsafe to drive with foggy windows. I know it's a race - just saying is all.
It will be interesting to see how many other teams think to research it.

"Shortcomings" says Mirna. No pun intended, I'm sure.
I really admire the teams that think even a little bit ahead. Not just catching a few zzzzz's in the airport, but asking
about the next destination. The Lord helps those who help themselves.

Navigate It or Sign It
I think that Kerwyn & I would navigate it.

Seville or Guam - Rob & Uchenna can't both be right. These days I put my money on Rob. Sorry Uchenna.
Navigators are in the lead!
SNAP!! It is a spelling thing - poor Rob.
(Phillipeans) (Phillipenes) C'mon Rob, 3rd time's a charm.
Alright U & J!!! Just knowing that he's struggling is pissing Rob off.
If Charla & Mirna can do this sign thing fast it will really be a burn on Rob. (Well that didn't happen)
Poor Rob - Joe & Bill show up and take off before Rob can even get his bearings.
Mirna should look into some meds
for that high-strung thing she's got going on.

And everyone is together again.
Yeah Danny & Oswald!
Hearing Americans butcher foreign names has to be a highlight of the show! They should do a highlight reel just of that.
Sorting - that is totally my job!! Horrible office jobs would pay off at last.

Is it just me or does it always sound like Mirna's talking to a child?
Believing another team. Trusting, yes. Gullible, perhaps. Dumb - only in The Amazing Race.
You call her out Charla! Make her squirm a little.
You lie like a rug Amber.
Sour grapes 'cause you're not winning. What goes around comes around.
Not that Charla & Mirna are my favourite team, but I just don't like seeing them picked on.

Karlyn didn't sign it because she didn't want to say anything nasty and at the same time she didn't want to be hypocritical. You GO girl!!
Jinx on Rob!!!
YES!!! Don't slow down now - read fast & run.
Rob & Amber don't seem to be running. That's the thing with the huge amount of editing (18+ hours down to 1) - it's hard to keep a grasp on how much time is passing.
A little humble pie - don't choke Rob. see comment #1 re: pride.

Disappointment & Joy

I am a Rockin' Sock Clubber and have been eagerly - and yet, because I am accustomed to waiting for deliveries from the good 'ole USofA to arrive in The Frozen North, patiently - anticipating the delivery of my first package. When I sent Amanda to the mailbox today I was cautiously optimistic. She comes back and says, "There's a box for you!" And up the stairs I went, giggling like a crazy school girl. I will admit to a moment of intense disappointment when I realized that the box was not the right size and shape to be from BMFA.
To my credit, I didn't burst into tears
and run away to my room. I took the box from her and looked at the label. Joy returned to my heart! It was from Dave!!!
I had ordered a skein of yarn from Cabin Cove Mercantile on Sunday and the website says that he only goes postal on Saturdays (I can go postal at the drop of a hat, but it's nice that some people can schedule this kind of thing.) so I wasn't expecting the yarn until late next week, at the earliest.
A classic example of under promising & over delivering. Isn't it enticingly packaged? Very cabin-y & mercantile-ish. Inside was even better!!! I know!! Isn't is stunning? And it's luscious & soft and ... lavender!!! Dave included a little package of lavender. I will have to knit up a little sachet for it.
Awesome service - I will definitely be a repeat customer!!!

I had a few errands to run today and picked up some DVDs.
I loved the Fraggles when I was a kid & I haven't lost the love. I'll have hours & hours of laugh-out-loud entertainment to knit by. So if I don't answer the phone or e-mails, just give a shout - I'll be down in Fraggle Rock. Try to get the song out of your head now!!! BWA-HA-HA!

P.S. I do have a package notice from the Post Office. I'm quite certain that it's my Rockin' Sock Club package. I'll swing by tomorrow morning & fetch it.

All Good Things

Kerwyn doesn't have to go to Reno!! When push came to shove they (and me) need him here more than there. And not that I'm doing anything or going anywhere with the kids but it's nice to know that Kerwyn is in the same country & province & area and that he'll be home every night.

This is Roto-Static John.
He cleaned our carpets just before we moved in and they were in desperate need of his ministrations again. He's wonderful & the carpets are much cleaner! Children have been newly threatened about spillage. It's not even the spills that bothher me so much, it's the "rub it in with my sock and that will make it disappear" or "cover it with something and Mom won't notice (the Something or the stain" that really kills me. Ah well, what's done is done and now it can start again.

This is 69" of stockinette
, that will be a Silk Shrug. After blocking, seaming & knitting a 300 stitch, 6" ruffle. I have a ball and about a half - I think that it will suffice. The ruffle is knit on 5.5mm needles (as opposed to the 3.5mm needles that the main part was knit on) so the 6" should just fly by!!! Shut up - I like my little isle of denial.
