I’ll Need 3 Forks please

Till Death spoiler pics below!!

It’s been quite a busy week for me at work, but I have managed to get some things done at home too!!

I finished my Wonder Woman Cape!!!

This is the pic of it blocking; I’ll have someone take a pic of me wearing it tomorrow. It didn’t block out quite as large as it could have - my short row wraps were a bit tight. Still, I’m chuffed af with the final result!!

Then I finished my Till Death MKAL mittens.

Not blocked yet, but I am thrilled with them. I wore them this morning and the beads on the palms are already driving me bonkers, so I think that I’ll be cracking them off. They do need blocking, and then I’m ready for Dรญa de los Muertos.

And then I made Wonder Woman cuffs. I could not be more pleased with how the colours worked out, finishing with the white/gold at the edge of the ruffle!!

The beads are so sparkly that I imagine that I really could fend off bullets with them!!
It also gave me the opportunity to use my tiny bead spinner - still one of the best gadgets ever!!
I popped into The Needle Emporium today (yes, when I’m in the mood for a drive, a 3 hour trip is “popping in” LOL!!) to pick up the yarn for my Throwback Cardigan  as well as yarn to knit a sweater for Julie. I haven’t knit with Rowan yarn in a while, and I’m especially happy to be able to give the felted Aran tweed a go in the Hartwist Sweater.

I could help but grab another Cheshire Cat kit.
I was so excited that they now came with variegated colours!! I know, it seems a bit muted, but it just called to me. It’s destined to be another Hitchiker scarf.

Till Death

SPOILER PICS BELOW!!

You know how sometimes you say, “I did something to my back ...”? Well, I did nothing and it’s not good. After my shower last night, it just started seizing up and I could barely walk. Despite praying to all the gods, the old and the new, this morning was not much better. It was so bad that I was calling in reinforcements to cover Cakes at work, and I especially love my cake shifts, so they knew it was bad.

My massage therapist is off on her honeymoon so I’m going to be using my next 4 days off to take all the drugs that will not aggravate my ulcer, and sit with a heating pad. Fortunately knitting fits nicely into this plan!!

I also ordered a footstool that will angle; I think that this will help improve my seated posture. And considering how much I’m seated at home, that will make a massive difference.

Adorable grandbaby pic so that when I post this to Facebook, the Till Death mittens pic isn’t the first one that you see.  I really do try to maintain the mystery for everyone else ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

I am finished Clue 3 on the 1st mitten!! I love the skeletons!

They fit just perfectly too!

So now I’m going to go go work on the 2nd mitten - so excited to see how my change of green looks. I hope I don’t love it too much or I’ll be tempted to make a 3rd mitten ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Not sure how much I’ll get done, I’m going to make a medicinal brownie. For my back, not just because I can.

A little bit of everything

I’m slipping back into that habit of just knitting and not blogging!!

*** Till Death Spoilers below!!! ***

Woodstock was fabulous, as it ever is. Sarah was picking out colours for the Throwback Cardigan  and it ended up being decided that we will be doing it as our Frolic sweater! I loved knitting with Woolstock and Dream State so much sit Humulus that it was not a difficult decision to use it again and I am going to be using the Woolstock Thermal Spring as my MC, to go with these Dream State contrasts:

I am making nice progress on Julie’s Trenchcoat socks.

I started on Amin’s blanket.

As much of a fibre snob as I can be, I do love Bernat Blanket for baby/kids blankets. It is so soft and washes well — it’s a fave with the kids and moms!

I am excited about my Till Death mittens!! Progress is painfully slow, but the result is satisfying. I’m not thrilled with the sea foam green colour, but too much time has been invested to rip it out. I do have a plan for the 2nd mitten ... I’m not going to redo the 2nd cuff, so it may be a bit odd, but I’m ok with that.

Mittens, Take Two

A busy week, but I finally remembered to make the time to stop at True North Yarn Co to pick out yarn for my cousins mittens.

Without further ado, I cast on for them after dinner tonight. I'm feeling much more optimistic about these ones!!

I have also made fine progress on my 2nd Stitch Surfers. Just finished the heel shaping.

Tomorrow a new clue comes out on the Vanessa Ives MKAL - can't wait to see what's next!!

Busy, busy, busy!!

Its Thanksgiving weekend this weekend; I have my son and his girlfriend coming, as well as my dad and his lady friend. I will be cooking all of the things!!

I'm back to work 1/2 days next week. It will be bittersweet. Almost 6 years; I've made a lot of friends and while I am excited about my new opportunity, there are a lot of people that I will miss at The Mighty Mart of Wal!!

Bulky means Bulky

Le. Grand. Sigh.

I really thought I could tighten up enough, but not too much, and รก la peanut butter sandwiches - mittens!!
Best laid plans.

Wayyyyyy too big.
This will necessitate a trip to an actual yarn store as Micheals didn't have anything else finer in the colours that are required. And I'm really not fancying a trip into The City for a potentially wider selection.

But I did get things done today.

I have been collecting (with the help of a friend or two at work) those annoying packets of silica beads. They have many uses; it was my intent to use them to preserve flowers; it maintains their shape and colour better than just hanging upside down.
Yes, you can buy silica gel, but it's not inexpensive, and I was in no hurry.
Well, birthday flowers seemed like the perfect time to get to it!
I had a lot already unpackaged, but had about 1/3 of my total still to do.

An hour I spent at it. Carefully tucking the beads under, in and around the flowers.
I have this bunch of lilies buried,

as well as a yellow daisy

and a red rose.

Google searches seem to indicate about 9 days for the rose, so I'll "set it and forget it".

I'm going to go wind some yarn to cast on a yet to be determined shawl on the Denise 2 Go needles from Yarn Canada.

I'll leave you with this bit of amusement that I totally related to!!

All Good Things

What a great day!!

I received this set of Denise 2 Go needles

from Yarn Canada to review. Check them out for the complete range of Denise sets. Hmmm ... guess Imma gonna hafta cast something long on!! Oh darn.

At first glance, it is an ideal travel set; quite compact. I selected the small sized kit, 3.5mm-6mm (IS5-10), as most of what I do falls into that range.

Once I have give them a test run, I'll be doing a contest to gift them. Stay tuned ...

I have cast on for my cousins mittens!!!

Patons Classic Wool Bulky on 6mm needles. I like doing mittens at a tighter gauge than recommended as it gives the mittens a denser, warmer fabric. Not bullet-proof, that's not what we're going for, just less airy.

What a gorgeous sunset tonight!! I couldn't capture the deep, intense roses, but it's close.

Enjoy your evening!!

Mittens

It's getting that time of year. My cousin retested mittens for herself and her daughter in Ti-Cat colours; I'm finally getting to them. when I say, "getting to them" I mean that the materials are assembled

I remain exhausted and brain-dead. I went to renew my license yesterday and didn't realize until I got there that I had no means of payment!! Back home, back to MTO. Sigh.

Mission accomplished though; I'm no quitter!!
Then to The Mighty Mart of Wal for chicken and a few things. I stood still countless times trying to remember what the "things" were. Fucking ridiculous!!
I remembered to get bacon at GT, but then after I was inside at home realized that I had forgotten to post the Mock Cape to Julie. Back out.
The Fates are conspiring against rest!
I did crash when I got back; there was nothing for it but bed.

I wasn't going to stay up on Sunday night for the eclipse, especially given the overcast conditions. Then Helen called and said, "Go look!!".

While I got a decent shot, I definitely need a tripod; so if you're struggling for what to get me as a belated birthday gift ... ;)

Things That Are Done

Another pain dazed day. I cant focus on much when the pain is so intense that it requires the most codeine. So I mostly just lay in bed, scrolling through Instagram, and playing solitaire quite badly. I let myself doze off. I check the time, but it doesn't really register unless it's 11:00, 3:00, or 7:00 when I can take medicines.

Chica lays with me during the day because she can jump up on the bed. Petey gets nights; I lift him up. Or he sleeps in his crate. Depends on our moods. They are steadfast guardians, doing their utmost to keep all harm from befalling me. And when pain assails me, they kiss me better, tails wagging earnestly, understanding in their eyes.

The pain is easing off now, which is to say that I can take less codeine; it's ridiculously relative.

I finished Georgitte

& the Favourite Soft Mittens

a few days ago. I'm finally getting to blocking out the Linen Stitch Scarf. The bind off edge is tight, despite my being deliberately loose in the doing of it.

(The colour is way off - hideous lighting in my bdrm!!) I think that next time I'll do a plain seed stitch row before casting off; that should alleviate some of the tightness.

I have been working on a sock for me. Easy, mindless knitting; just what I need. I love when the colours spiral like this!

I'm not sure what the yarn is, it's stash.

Early to bed again tonight. I'm exhausted despite massive bed rest. Pain and drugs are exhausting and I am counting down the days to their end like a prisoner getting released.

In With the New

So I've finished up a couple of large projects ... what's a girl to do? Start new ones!!!

Here are pics of the mittens that I knit for Amanda -
the blue is Classic Wool & the green is my KoolAid dyed Philosophers Wool. I know, but Amanda loved the lime green so much (me too!!!) & she swears that it's not itchy. "You just think that it's itchy because you're used to working with alpaca and stuff." Okay, I admit that I've been spoiled but seriously - even compared to the CW it's picky. But I give the people what they want!!

After knitting scarves for some of the deserving people in my life I got a bit selfish and knit a cowl from a Trendsetter scarf skein (Thanks Michelle!!!). I added in some Hanah Silk that Amanda had bought for me at Julie's tent sale & some Malabrigo Silky Merino - they worked in perfectly and made for a generous cowl; I was obviously in some sort of blue mood today. Ignore the lack of makeup - it was an at home day & I have an eye infection and I'm afraid that make up will only make it worse. I'm just glad that I have antibiotic drops and that blinking no longer gives me a headache.

I'm on the 2nd sock for Elise ... Top Secret.

The swatches are for a design modification that I'm working on for Windy Valley Muskox.
The yarn is their Majestic Blend and let me tell you - it's totally majestic - I'd swear that there is more qiviut in it than there is!! I did three swatches to make sure which gauge I loved the most and I'm going with the largest one - it's airy without making the fabric lacy. (The green is a light sage in RL)

Thank you all for your support and encouragement through my cancer treatments - it really does make a difference, more than you know. I didn't know nearly as much as I know now about breast cancer, chemo therapy and the side effects and I do hope that even if you never have to draw on the knowledge that it helps someone if they need it.
