Broken

Once again I find it's been ages since my last post. honestly, I'm not even going to check exactly *how* long
Len's Mill Store is open in Barrie!!! We worked so many hours getting it ready enough, and it's been a whirlwind! It's been very well received in the area, and Nic & I are confident that it will be a continued success.
I have been knitting. Knitting samples for the store, a personal project here and there, and always for Julie.
Here are pics - random, but there it is. one would think that I'd be better at catching up after all the times I've had to do if, but there you go

Seeder

Spatterdashes

I've also gone and broken my fibula. Last Friday night, freezing rain, icy step, high torque twist, snap. It's a high break, but the treatment is to pin the ankle, cast it to below the knee and let it torture me for 6 weeks.

I've got a ride sorted to work, I'll be at the mercy of friends for provisional runs, and Helen shall once again be on laundry duty. It won't be easy, but I can't cheat, and must use at least one crutch to bear the my weight as it inflicts significant pain otherwise.
The cast, pain, and meds make sleep a challenge, but I do enjoy a challenge.
Three days in, the itching has begun. Nothing but the best scratcher for us!!

My fluting continues! Now that my work schedule has sorted out to less than insane, I can have my lessons regularly. Myrelle is wonderful, and is coming to me until I can go back to the Barn Music Studio.
I really enjoy playing, and am getting better, even though I play mostly for myself.

Still knitting

It's been a challenging few weeks, but I am finding a way, every day, to keep moving forward.
It's different from the dissolution of my marriage; it hurts in a different way, but the pain runs deep. It seems to be not about the years together, but that intangible investment that your heart has made.

My hands are fine, though I might just touch base with my family dr about my left one. The middle knuckle is still giving me gyp, snapping my fingers with that hand still makes it ache. I think that it may have actually been broken.

I have finished my Churchmouse linen st scarf!! Took a lot longer than it should have, but we got there.

It needs a blocking, not the least so that the fringe straightens out so that I can trim it.
I like it a lot. *Almost* hoping for cooler weather to put it to good use.
Julie has sent me a couple of small projects. I'm starting with this wee stuffie.

Georgitte is a cutie, no doubt about it, and will perhaps change my attitude towards stuffed animal projects. We shall see shortly.

I have been spinning. It is good therapy as I can't let my emotions intrude upon my process or it gets ugly fast. I am feeling more confident in spinning a fairly consistent light-weight single. I think that it will be closer to a sport weight than the fingering that I was hoping for, but only plying and setting will tell.
I am halfway through the super wash roving that Barb gave us at the Frolic class.

I have found quite a bit more roving that had slipped my mind that I will spin up and practice on before I give a real shot at spinning a serious length of yarn for a project.

The puppies are well.
Chica's caring style is to keep me preoccupied with throwing her ball. Lol.

She loves that thing and makes me laugh with her antics.
Petey is my sensitive carer. He will not watch me cry. He jumps up and is licking my face until I stop - if for no other reason than to halt his zealous ministrations!!

He snuggles beside me, morning and night, silently, consistently comforting.
I had Toby for two weeks while Kee was away for work. Chica & I will miss him a lot. We had some great fun at the soccer pitch. I told Lee that he had to keep forking out for the Chuckit ball.

Baseball has been terrific this year; I'm so glad that I got onto a mixed team. There's more overall playing, and it gives me that many more games and exercise. I bring the puppies sometimes; Chris & Maria are their fave minders.

I am working towards a big change. I'm due for a positive one that I choose for myself. It's geographical. Nothing definite at the mo, but I won't give up on this. I need somewhere new, where I can make positive memories unclouded by the past. Not haunted by memory triggers everywhere I turn.

Keeping On

Not much to say.
I worked most of yesterday but went to Emerg at lunch to have my hand looked at. It was still quite swollen, and though I could make a fist & see the knuckles, it occurred to me that a bone in the back of my hand may be broken. It wasn't, just deeply bruised. My own fault, I don't expect sympathy for that.
I'm not normally a hitter/thrower. I don't generally act out/speak in anger because it is apart always just hurtful and unproductive. Case in point.
The puppies have been a lovely distraction and comfort.

I called in a personal day today; not to wallow, just try to clear my head and not have to put on a happy face.
I've had stretches of wry him out and not dwelling, then a memory comes out of nowhere, stabs me in the back, and reduces me to tears. I know that the stretches will become longer and the memories more sweet than bitter, but it's gut-wrenching at the mo.
But I've been through worse. I'll get through this.
Almost done the Bernat baby blanket.

Time for a walk.

'Tis the Season

Spring really is my least favourite season. The weather is so volatile and my poor head/body pays the price.
I have a crushing migraine. Took Rx at 6:30, crashed and woke up again at 11:30 feeling like I'd been drowned and rescued several times over. Not that I've ever had that happen, but I feel like this is what that would feel like.
I had such a fantastic day yesterday - energetic and productive - that this is an especial blow.
The meds generally take care of the migraine itself, but I can feel effects of the medication all over and it takes about a day to feel like I'm myself again.

But I have made progress on the CEY Liberty Moss Cardigan. I think that they may have named it after the colourway as there is no moss stitch.

Almost time for the sleeves!!

The puppies (I'll likely never stop calling them that!!) and I enjoyed the lovely weather on Thursday in my cute front stoop.

I bought a small planter at Costco - I just love gerberas. They are such a simple flower, but like a garter or stockinette stitch, the simplicity is what makes them so beautiful.
And there is just no me without music! The knitting was easy under these circumstances.

Okay ... more nap now, the better to knit later.

Groundhog Day

Seriously, doing everything over again today.

I *knew* that I was supposed to be doing the M size, but somewhere along the way when I turned over the page and looked at the numbers, I ended up doing the S.

Fortunately I realized this fairly early on and I do love knitting garter stitch.

So, today will be about correction and tomorrow can be about actual progress.

And the Knit Goes On

I awoke way early with a creeping migraine. Zomig and a good lie in sorted that out but put me off to a slow start in my day.

Did some errands, the puppies both have harnesses now for walking. It immediately improved their propensity for pulling. Chica is less find of it, but she'll adapt. I hope.

My knitting accompaniment has been George Gently. I think that much of the appeal of British shows for me is in the countryside. The moors and the seasides (of Northern England in this instance) make me ache to go.
One day, but for now I am content to knit to the views from my sofa.

The great thing about a Shaping Plan is that you can see how far you've come.

Chica is still dogging me with her ball. oh yes, pun intended And who could resist this wee face?

More of the Same

Flanking a cable motif is stockinette - more simple pleasure.

I watched Bloodline today as I knit. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I have all of the Netflix original series. Totally worth the price of admission.

I've had a craving for burgers this week. Sunday night found me at Crabby Joe's, nice to have a local that I can walk to and from, but tonight I went to No Frills for provisions.

Mmmmmm!!! Petey thought that I was is some sort of pain given the moaning of pleasure that was coming from my full mouth.

Petey seems more himself today, less mopeyness.

Simple Pleasure

I love knitting, you all know that. It's not all about having a finished something, though I couldn't just swatch forever.
I love the yarn, the way each different one winds its own magic through my fingers. Thick, thin, slubby, silky, natural.
The colours, even if they aren't the ones that I would choose for myself. Muted, bright, rich, tweedy, variegated.
When a swatch is blocking, I love the smell of wet wool. I love knowing that this square will be The Key. That even though math was never my best or favourite subject, that the numbers that swatch holds will never lead me astray.
I really love the way one stitch joins with the one beside it and below it, creating a fabric with its own magic.
And I will always enjoy the simple pleasures of basic stitches - garter, stockinette, and ribbing.

Ahhhhh, I can't help it.

Here is the simple thing I've done so far today.

And then I did the Shaping Plan.

Keeps me on the straight and narrow ;)

Petey has been mopey today. Not poorly, but just going and laying in the small crate rather than laying at my feet. He's 11 months old, maybe he's a moody teenager??
Chica has been obsessed with her ball. She will play with it all day. And by "she will", I mean that as long as I toss it, she'll bring it back. And it's not like I have a lot of choice. She brings it and if I'm not fast enough for her, she'll nose it, then look up at me.

This'll happen a few times then there will be the yipping. I think that she may die of neglect and boredom when I go back to work!!

Joining

In general, I like splicing to join in a new ball of yarn.

However, with tubular yarns like Santorini, a Russian Join works perfectly.
And especially for a reversible and largely lacy piece, it is an effective method for alleviating ends, with the exception of the beginning and end.

I've included a link and with the following pictures, I'm going to leave off with explanations.

Repeat as above for the 2nd end.

There will be a thicker section where the ends overlap back on themselves, but it's practically invisible in the fabric.

And so it grows ...

Back to the work week and so little much to write about. I am trudging through my days at The Mighty Mart of Wal, trying to make a small difference in my humble department.
I have received an overwhelming amount of Bernat Blanket and Handicrafter Cotton (the large balls), the latter in some stunning new colourways. YMMV at other WM, but if you're localish to Alliston, please come and relieve me of some of the stock.

On a more exotic yarn front, Naushon grows.

Gauge is hard to measure as the fabric is quite fluid, but I think this is what will make it a nice wrap.

I made a delicious pizza tonight. Curried chicken (which I didn't cook to a dry leather), pineapple, and hot pepper. Extra cheese as well, of course.

I did go diving into my seasonal bin to commemorate the day of my people.

Happy St Patrick's Day!!!

My Sunday.

Coffee.

We used a reusable Keurig filter and it wasn't nearly as strong as advertised. Lee and I decided that mayhap we should pack it in a bit as the structure of the reusable filter is different from the disposable pods.

Bacon butty.

A walk.

A lovely afternoon for such a thing.

Knitting.

Petey is a steadfast knitting companion. I love him.

Lee was watching football.

Very intently. He was very pleased as ManU was up early on and kept the lead.
